A stage race is one where the scene of competition shifts from one town to another. As such, the complete race develops during several days. The rider who stays the distance and finishes each stage in the shortest comulative time is the individual time classification winner. Stage racing riquires stamina, general speed, and the ability to sprint combined with strategy, and teamwork. In other words, stage racing concentrates all of the foremost skills of cycle competition. Moreover, as fans follow the race, guessing the intensions of the riders and the teams and witnessing the results is as exiting as any other real life drama. Stage racing is a compelling human spectacle.
